Narrative
Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, stages a plot to seize control of Gotham’s underworld. Aside from a Bat-signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got our hands on Robert Pattinson’s costume in The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard to land a smoking version of The Penguin (2022), but failed.

However, his own series portrays the character as a casual tobacco user who prefers to smoke a cigar. The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo.

I thought Colin Farrell was great as the Penguin in Batman, but I never understood how you could take a skinny, good-looking actor and put him in a massive prosthetic and fat suit… especially when you consider that he looks like some other famous actors who would have been just as good. I also never really understood why this spinoff came about, and to be honest, I’m just sick of Batman reboots.
But I didn’t expect to like it this much
But after Part 1, I can confirm that this show is amazing (so far). I just watched it knowing that it was a bridge between the first and second movies, and I knew I was surprised by Farrell’s performance in the first. The acting is great, the writing is great, and it surprised me with some quick twists.
What I liked most was that he had a lot more color than Batman
I noticed this almost immediately because I had a huge complaint about the movie (it felt like I was watching it through a Zack Snyder lens). I hope it continues to be this good because I can’t wait for the next episode.
