A modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights in order to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases, so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for the workers (man camp), assemble the drilling machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, troubleshooters, problem-solvers, and facilitators.

Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series so I don’t have the expectations that seem to come from being a Yellowstone fan. The main story so far is interesting and exciting without being too over the top. There are a couple of subplots that develop well throughout the episodes but maybe one of them compromises the overall quality of the show.
The cast details their characters well
The visual production is noteworthy; the direction and setting creation are to be enjoyed. It would be interesting to get the opinion of people working in the industry on how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really leads the show well.
Overall a very good series, visually well executed and excellently acted
